Police across the District have marked more than 100 trailers and raised awareness of rural crime prevention measures during a month long focus on rural and agricultural crime.
Officers across the district held Farm Watch and trailer marking events and created opportunities to meet with members of the rural community and discuss their concerns. Officers also explained the steps police are taking to tackle rural crime and the importance of working together.
The focus on rural crime has been well received and officers have provided crime prevention advice to help the community protect their homes, livestock and machinery.
E District Commander, Chief Superintendent Sam Cordner, said: “We hope that our month long focus on rural crime has helped the community to feel safer and understand that we are doing our utmost to tackle this type of crime.
“As February comes to an end we will continue to provide visible patrols in rural areas and work with the rural community through Farm Watch, trailer marking and our text alert scheme. Officers will also continue to attend farming and rural events and provide crime prevention advice and listen to concerns.
“We hope this focus has demonstrated our commitment to addressing rural crime and I would ask for the continued support of communities across E District as we move forward. Taking measures to secure your home, livestock, buildings and machinery are the first step in lessening your chance of becoming a victim of crime.
“Information from the community is vital in helping us address rural crime. You know your own area best and if you notice something which does not look right, are aware of machinery moving at odd times or notice unusual attention being paid to livestock in fields, phone police. We need this information to target our resources and respond in the best way. We would much rather take the time to check out a call that proves to show nothing untoward than miss an opportunity to stop a crime or catch criminals in the act.
