Police work to combat shoplifters after weekend incidents at Rushmere

Brownlow Neighbourhood Policing Team have arrested two people following separate incidents of shoplifting over the weekend.

Sergeant Alwyn Peters explained: “On Saturday, 8 November, we received a report of a group of five men and one woman stealing stock from a clothing store in a shopping centre on Central Way.

“Staff at the store detained one male and the other five people made off.

“We attended and a 56 year old man was arrested for theft and going equipped. He was subsequently charged to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on 5 December.

“On the following day we received a report of theft from a department store in the shopping centre. We attended and arrested a 26 year old female. She was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

“We are currently working with local businesses to find ways to combat and reduce incidents of shoplifting and theft.”
