A new drive-thru cafe at the Northway in Portadown has been given the go-ahead.
A reserved matters application for the development had been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council in June.
The site in question was described as “vacant lands” at the entrance to the Asda superstore.
And now the application has been approved after consideration by council officials and subject to a number of conditions.
The submission in June, in the name of JH Turkington Ltd, followed the granting of outline planning approval three earlier for a drive-thru cafe and three cafe/restaurant units, as well as parking.
The drive-thru – the first element of this which now being progressed – has now been given the thumbs-up.
June’s application brought additional information and plans for the drive-thru cafe, sitting directly beside the Northway.
It will see the development of a new-build unit, stretching to close to 2,500 sq ft.
It would provide seating, with drawings indicating around 38 available seats inside and 12 outside the premises.
There would also be a total of 37 parking spaces, including disabled provision, together with toilet facilities too,
There will be a single drive-thru lane, merging into two at one juncture with separate ordering ‘speakers’, before rejoining and advancing to collection point. There will be external menu display boards available for those using the drive-thru element of the cafe.
Access to the site is designated on Joseph Street and can be gained from the Northway and Bridge Street.
According to the planners there were no objections to the proposals.
While no indication is given at this stage as to the intended operator, the planners report that “the design is typical of a modern drive-thru restaurant complex”.
The signed approval notices has now been forwarded to the applicants.
