A man who caused “an absolute nuisance” by jumping in an out of traffic in Portadown whilst drunk has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service.
Court heard this was one of three offences committed by the 21-year-old, all of which happened in the same week during birthday and Christmas celebrations
Laurynas Leleivas, of Armagh Road, Portadown pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour and resisting police at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on December 29, police were contacted by several members of the public regarding a disturbance on the Armagh Road, Portadown.
Two males were running in and out of traffic and climbing on top of vehicles.
Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the defendant, one of those involved.
Leleivas constantly swore despite being told to stop several times by police.
He made comments such as “f*** sake” and “what the f***?”.
The defendant was subsequently arrested but struggled.
Leleivas had to be restrained to the ground before handcuffs could be applied.
Defence solicitor Suin Downey stated: “This man is originally from Lithuania. He moved to Northern Ireland in November and works full time in a factory.
“He has a limited record with all three entries occurring in the same week.”
She explained: “Mr Leleivas was drinking excessively during this period which was over his birthday and during the Christmas period.
“He had very little memory of the incident and wishes to apologise for his actions.”
District Judge Stephen Keown stated: “You caused an absolute nuisance, and this was not the first time you got into trouble in a short space of time.”
Leleivas was sentenced to 100 hours of community service.
