Patients of Bannview Medical Practice in Portadown have been dealt another blow following the breakdown in negotiations with a neighbouring GP over the potential takeover of its day-to-day management.
It is understood Riverside Medical Practice, which also operates out of the Portadown Health Centre, had been in talks with the Health and Social Care Board about a long-term solution.
There were hopes for an end to years of uncertainty, with a permanent and funded solution offering a stable and sustainable practice, however, with those talks falling through, further doubts have been cast on the ailing practice.
A spokesperson for the Health and Social Care Board commented: “We would like to reassure patients of Bannview Practice that the practice currently remains open and patients should continue to contact the practice as normal for their ongoing care, including any scheduled appointment to receive their Covid-19 vaccination.
“We remain optimistic that we will secure a new contract holder for Bannview Practice although we are disappointed that the practice we have been in caretaker negotiations with has decided to withdraw.
“We would ask patients and local political representatives to remain patient as we continue to work through this process.”
