A Portadown man who drove off after reversing into a parked car at a petrol station has been handed five penalty points.
Ryan Michael Black, of Ballyoran Park, pleaded guilty to failing to remain, stop or report an accident and dangerous driving at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Court heard the incident occurred on April 15 at around 10pm, when the 36-year-old reversed into a car parked at a petrol pump at Eurospar on Portadown Road, Lurgan.
The defendant then drove off, exiting over a grass verge.
When he was later interviewed by police, Black said he did not know the area well, which had been the reason he drove over the grass verge.
Defence solicitor John McAtamney said the defendant was “not an experienced driver” and that this was a “low impact, low-speed collision”.
He added that Black had been driving for five years and did not have a single penalty point.
District Judge Bernie Kelly handed the defendant five penalty points and ordered him to pay a fine of £375, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
