A Co. Armagh community group have been dealt a “cruel blow” after thieves made off a newly built garden table and chairs.
Volunteers at Portadown Men’s Shed, who built the garden furniture for a customer, placed the items outside ready for delivery only for them to be snatched over the weekend.
“When we arrived up at the Eden Villas site this morning (Wednesday) we were distraught to find that a 6ft heavyweight picnic table and two matching chairs had been stolen over the weekend,” they posted on social media.
Explaining further, they added: “These were only just built for a customer and were left outside the Shed but inside the council compound ready for delivery.
“This is a cruel blow to the Shed which depends upon the generosity of local businesses and volunteers to stay afloat.
“We would ask you for help in the possible recovery of these items should you notice them for sale in online sites or should you see them in someone’s garden. The police have been informed. Thank you for your support.”
Ulster Unionist Councillor Julie Flaherty commented: “How bad is this! This makes me so angry. Surely to God someone has heard something going on when this was nicked.
“It’s not something easy to move. Someone will know where this is; someone has this.”
