A Portadown man who collided with a roundabout after drinking at a friend’s house has been disqualified for 12 months.
Court heard the 37-year-old admitted the offence to police at the scene and told them: “It was a bad idea.”
Marcin Edmund Jaworski, of Atkinson Avenue, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Wednesday.
It was heard that on August 3, at around 3.30am, police received a report of a road traffic collision at roundabout 4 in Craigavon involving a possible drink driver.
Officers arrived to find a Toyota Corolla with damage to its front tyre and skid marks indicating it had collided with the curb at the centre of the roundabout.
Police spoke to the defendant, who was stood nearby, they observed that he appeared intoxicated.
Jaworski admitted to drinking alcohol and driving, once arrested the defendant replied: “It was a bad idea”.
At Lurgan Custody Suite a reading of 83mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath was obtained.
Defence solicitor John McAtamney stated: “This man has been living in Northern Ireland for nine years, he has been driving on a Polish licence since 2000 and has no penalty points.
“He has been drinking at a friend’s house on the night he was detected by police, luckily there was no other vehicle involved”.
Jaworski was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
