Two teenagers – including a 15-year-old driver – have been arrested after a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen car on the A1 dual carriageway late on Monday night.

Police Interceptors from Sprucefield, working alongside Road Policing officers from Mahon Road in Portadown, were alerted to a white Audi A3 travelling northbound which had been reported stolen in a burglary in the Republic of Ireland earlier this month.

The car was spotted in the Dromore area but failed to stop for police, instead making off at speeds of up to 120mph.

Officers deployed a stinger device which punctured the front tyres, forcing the vehicle to gradually slow down and allowing the pursuit to be brought to a safe conclusion.

A 15-year-old boy, who had been driving the car, and a 17-year-old passenger – both from the Republic of Ireland – were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences. These included dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, burglary, and going equipped for theft.

At around the same time, police also discovered another stolen car – a gold Range Rover with ROI registration plates – abandoned a short distance away.

Both teenagers remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
