The owner of a Co Armagh pub was punched in the face by a a Magheralin man who had been asked to leave his premises.
And in a sequel at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court, 30-year-old Brian Purdy pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and common assault.
A pre-sentence report has now been been ordered by District Judge Bernie Kelly.
The court heard the incident happened on May 6 at around 10 pm, when the defendant was asked to leave by the owner of Joe Mac’s Bar in Portadown.
Purdy, of Bredon Park, refused to leave, attempting to get into the back of the bar.
At this point, the injured party blocked the defendant’s path, who then punched the bar owner on the nose and elbow.
Court heard a struggle ensued to remove Purdy from the premises with the owner receiving some injuries.
When interviewed the defendant stated said he could not remember what had happened but was sorry.
District Judge Bernie Kelly commented that Purdy “obviously has an alcohol problem” as she ordered a pre-sentence report.
Purdy is due to return to court on August 24.
