Portadown based Irwin has been awarded the mechanical and electrical contract for the redevelopment of Cambridge Halls in Manchester, working in partnership with GRAHAM Construction on a landmark purpose-built student accommodation development.
Located within Manchester Metropolitan University All Saints Campus, the redevelopment forms part of the University’s wider campus regeneration plans. The project will create a modern student living environment, alongside commercial space and a new community health centre, helping to transform a key part of Manchester city centre.
As part of the project, Irwin will deliver the complete mechanical and electrical services for 1,101 student bedrooms.
The award represents the largest contract secured in the company’s history and will support more than 320 jobs across Irwin’s Portadown headquarters and Belfast office as the project progresses over the coming years.
Designed by Cartwright Pickard, the development places sustainability at its core, targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating through the use of low-carbon technologies and energy-efficient building systems.
Design development is already progressing, with Irwin coordinating the mechanical and electrical services ahead of construction.

Construction will progress in phases over the coming years, with Irwin supporting the project from the early stages through to the completion of the mechanical and electrical installation.
