A man who admitted stealing two air fryers, a vacuum cleaner and a saucepan with a total value of £170 from Asda in Portadown, said he was stealing to fund a drug addiction.
Brian Paul Ward (33), with an address listed as c/o a prison, committed theft on January 22 this year.
He appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday via video link from prison.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had a “poor record in respect of dishonesty offences”.
She said he had a drug addiction and was stealing “to fund his addiction”.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan said it was the defendant’s 16th theft offence.
The defendant, who is due to be released in August next year in respect of a current sentence, was given a concurrent six months prison term for the Asda shoplifting.
As the defendant was in jail the judge made no order for compensation.
