Police in Craigavon have arrested a man for attempted murder.
It follows a report of a stabbing at Abercorn Park in Portadown.
Police received a report of the stabbing shortly before midnight last night (Wednesday).
Officers attended within a minute and found a 34-year-old man who had been attacked with a knife and hammer.
The man sustained injuries to his head and shoulder.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
Police say another male was given First Aid by Portadown policing crews until Ambulance Service arrived and that person is described as “recovering well”.
Two knives and a hammer were recovered during the search of a house.
Police, giving more information on the stabbing, posted on Facebook: “This could have been far worse, we could be looking at a fatality today.
“Due to some great work and a quick response from our Portadown officers, and some more top notch care from our ambulance service and A&E colleagues, that is thankfully not the case.
“If you think someone is carrying weapons in public, let us know. It could prevent an incident like this.
“If you live in Abercorn Park and saw or heard anything last night just before midnight, call us on 101 quoting incident number 1427 of 04/05/16.”
