
A man accused of non-fatal strangulation of and assault of a woman he allegedly threatened to kill is barred from Portadown as part of bail conditions.
Nicolae Nicolescu (26), of no fixed abode, is alleged to have committed offences on February 17 this year.
He is also accused of possessing a knife as an offensive weapon.
Originally from Romania, he had the assistance of an interpreter when he appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court via video link from prison where he has been on remand.
The court heard he had no record.
A police officer said it was believed the defendant had been in a relationship with the complainant.
The defendant was given bail to an address to be approved by police.
He is barred from Portadown and he has a 10pm-7am curfew and there will be an electronic monitoring tag. He has to sign twice a week at a police station.
Travel documentation has to be surrendered and he is to have no contact with the complainant.
The case was adjourned to March 21.
