A man allegedly involving in a crime spree across Portdown in the early hours of Tuesday will appear in court this morning (Wednesday).
The 27-year-old man has been charged with four counts of burglary, possession of a class B controlled drug and theft of a vehicle.
He is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates Court.
As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Speaking on the incident yesterday, Detective Sergeant Foley said: “Police received a report of an attempted burglary at a property in the Bachelor’s Walk area around 3.15am.
“Two male suspects were reported to have attempted to force entry to the house but fled when they were disturbed by the homeowner.
“There were no reports of any injuries, however, the occupants of the property were left badly shaken.
“One of the suspects is reported to have worn a scarf which was pulled over his face, with his hood up. The second suspect is reported to have worn what was described as a dark-coloured coat and had his face covered with a scarf.
“A short time later, around 3:30am, we received a report of a creeper-style burglary at a house in the Margretta Park where entry was forced to the property and a silver Audi A3 was reported stolen. There were two occupants in the house at the time of the burglary, both aged in their 80s.
“Thankfully, they weren’t physically injured, however, they have been left very shaken by what must have been a terrifying ordeal for them.
“While in attendance at the burglary in Margretta park, police recovered a bicycle in the vicinity, which is believed to have been taken during a burglary at a property in the Killycomain Road area, and which was reported to us just before 9am this morning.
“A second bicycle – a red ‘Voodoo Hoodoo’ Mountain Bike – was also reported stolen from this property.”
Police are continuing their appeal for information.
Detective Sergeant Foley added: “We believe, at this time, these three reports are linked, and would appeal to anyone who has information about any of these crimes to get in touch.
“In particular, I want to appeal to anyone who was in the Bachelor’s Walk or Margretta Park areas just prior to, or around the time the incidents were reported to us, to get in touch.
“If you saw any suspicious activity in the area or have information about any of these crimes call detectives in Lurgan on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference numbers 129 08/01/19; 117 08/01/19.”
