Around 300 cannabis plants have been seized and a man arrested after police uncovered a “sophisticated and well-organised” drugs factory in Portadown.
Inspector Connolly said: “At approximately 7.15pm on Wednesday, 9th September Local Policing Team officers discovered a substantial amount of plants growing across rooms in outbuildings and sheds at a property in the Moy Road area.
“On officers’ arrival, a 32-year-old man attempted to make off from the scene after exiting a static caravan located in the area.
“He was subsequently detained a short time later, and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug, cultivating cannabis, possession of a Class B controlled drug, and dishonestly using electricity.
“He remains in custody at this time as our enquiries continue into the investigation.
“This was a sophisticated and well organised cultivation operation. At this time, we estimate we recovered around 300 plants from the premises which will now undergo further forensic examination, along with other items.”
Inspector Connolly continued: “This substantial quantity of drugs has now been prevented from reaching our streets and what appears to be a well-organised operation has been dismantled.
“Targeting drugs supply is a priority for the Police Service of Northern Ireland and our officers are always on the lookout for any potential criminal activity.
“Cannabis farms such as these often have links to serious and organised crime gangs. By shutting down this grow, we have helped to stop criminality in its tracks.
“We will continue to be relentless in our commitment to tackle the illegal supply and use of drugs, and will continue to investigate those who profit from the consequent misery and harm.
