Man took temper out on police and was shouting and swearing after being ejected from bar

His defence said: 'He had been drinking from two in the afternoon. He took issue with the door staff and was ejected'

A Portadown man who took his temper out on police after being ejected from a bar by door staff has been landed with a £400 fine.

The district judge warned the 30-year-old: “If it happens again the court will take a much more serious view of it.”

Gareth Waring Jones, of Lisnisky Walk, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecution outlined that on February 2, at 12.35am, police received a report from a bar on Mandeville Street, Portadown, of a male who had attempted to assault door staff after being ejected from the premises.

Police spoke to the male, who was identified as the defendant, but he reacted by shouting and swearing calling them “f****** b*******”.

This continued and, despite being warned on several occasions, Jones was subsequently arrested for disorderly behaviour.

Defence solicitor Richard Montieth stated: “He had been drinking from two in the afternoon. He took issue with the door staff and was ejected.

“He then took his temper out on the police. He has instructed that this was a case of once the drink’s in the wits are out.”

Jones was ordered to pay a fine of £400, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within six weeks.

District Judge Steven Keown told the defendant: “That is because of the gap in your record but if it happens again the court will take a much more serious view of it.”
