A man wanted in Lithuania to stand trial for grievous bodily harm on a woman has been arrested in Portadown following a joint operation involving the PSNI’s Interceptor Team and international policing partners.

The 48-year-old was detained in the Portadown area on Thursday, November 6, on foot of a Lithuanian extradition warrant.

The charge relates to an alleged assault in the Panevėžys area of Lithuania in September 2024, in which a woman sustained serious injuries, including multiple fractures.

The suspect is due to appear before Laganside Extradition Court on Friday, November 7.

Sergeant Davey, from the Police Service’s International Policing Unit, said: “This arrest is another example of the Police Service of Northern Ireland working to locate, arrest and bring before the courts those who are wanted for serious offences in Europe.

“In this case we have worked closely with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, and the Police Service’s Interceptor Team, to locate and arrest this suspect.

“We remain committed to tackling violence against women and girls, and today’s arrest delivers on our assurance of the relentless pursuit of perpetrators and supporting victims.”
