New Portadown roller disco aims to donate £35,000 to schools and clubs across NI

Powered by Sport manages the entire event, while groups earn a cashback percentage on every ticket sold, turning a standard group outing into a fundraiser

A new roller disco fundraising initiative aims to donate up to £35,000 to schools, youth groups, charities and sports clubs across Northern Ireland during 2026, while also helping a local charity sustain its social enterprise in response to the continued decline in third-sector grant funding.

The initiative has been launched by Powered by Sport, the local charity that operates The Rink Sports Arena, located just off the M1 outside Portadown.

It offers schools, youth groups, sports teams, registered charities and community organisations a simple way to raise unrestricted funds through a professionally organised fun event — with no volunteer workload.

The programme – called The Ultimate Fundraiser – allows participating groups to sell tickets online for a dedicated roller disco event at The Rink.

Powered by Sport manages the entire event, while groups earn a cashback percentage on every ticket sold, turning a standard group outing into a fundraiser.

Stephen Lynch, CEO of Powered by Sport, said: “The Ultimate Fundraiser is a circular social economy initiative designed to help schools, youth groups, charities and sports clubs raise vital funds easily, while guaranteeing a high-energy activity that people of all ages can genuinely enjoy together.

“With fewer grants available and volunteer time under pressure, organisations need practical alternatives. This removes the stress while still delivering meaningful financial support.”

Lynch explained that the initiative is particularly attractive for schools and youth organisations that already organise trips and outings.

“A typical off-site school or youth trip for around 60 young people can cost close to £1,000 once transport and logistics are included. This initiative allows that same trip to become a fundraiser.

“Children get an exciting shared experience, while the school or youth club can receive between £700 and £1,400 per event through the cashback model, turning an expense into a new income stream.”

Powered by Sport estimates that by hosting 50 groups during 2026, the initiative could generate up to £35,000 in donations for local causes across Northern Ireland, while also creating a sustainable income stream for the charity’s social enterprise to help replace lost grant funding.

“If you support us, we’ll support you right back,” Lynch added.

Although these trips can happen at any time in 2026 groups interested taking part in this initiative must register their interest before 5pm on Friday February 27, 2026.
