A man accused of multiple charges relating to the possession of offensive weapons and assault will face Crown Court proceedings next month.
The 44-year-old appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Emanuel Da Luz Olivera, whose address is given as Gerard Maguire Solicitors, is charged with two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, wounding, theft, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.
As the charges were read, it was heard that on June 17 the defendant is accused of stealing £300 and a box of subutex.
On June 18, Olivera is alleged to have had a length of wood studded with nails and a pair of shears in his possession on William Street in Portadown.
He is further accused of assaulting a male occasioning actual bodily harm on the same date.
Then on June 19, Olivera is alleged to have been in possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife, with intent to commit an indictable offence and to have unlawfully and maliciously wounded a male.
Appearing via videolink from Maghaberry, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Aaron Thompson made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Bernie Kelly, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, remanded Olivera in custody to appear at Craigavon Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
