A Portadown man who caused a four-vehicle collision has been handed three penalty points.
The 56-year-old’s solicitor said the defendant “simply didn’t stop in time”.
David Carville, of Festival Road, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on May 21 police responded to a report of a four-vehicle collision on the Lurgan Road, Portadown.
Officers spoke to the drivers of all those vehicles involved with the defendant being one of them.
Carville immediately claimed that it had been he who had caused the accident.
All four vehicles had been travelling in the same direction; the three in front slowed on approach to a roundabout, but the defendant did not.
His van collided with a car in front which had a knock-on effect to those in front.
Court heard that many of those involved in the incident had complaints of whiplash.
Defence solicitor Joseph McDonald stated that Carville had a clear record over his 35 years of driving.
He said his client “simply did not stop in time” adding that the collision had been “bumper to bumper” as opposed to “head on”.
Carville was handed three penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £50, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
