Plans for major development could see 240 homes built in Portadown

The Loughgall Road roundabout leading off from Ashton Hall

A substantial housing development is being planned for a largely residential area on the outskirts of Portadown.

The proposals fall into the ‘major’ category and as such a pre-application notice (PAN) has been submitted to Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council prior to a full planning application.

Submitted by Tetra Tech Consulting (NI) Ltd on behalf of the applicant – Mr David Gilmore – the PAN requests permission to erect in the region of 240 residential homes on lands located South of Loughgall Road, Lacehill Park, Ashton Hall and Ashfield Manor.

Little is known about the specification of the proposed homes at this time but – if approved – works will include the development of a children’s play area and public open space.

The area outlined for development sits West of Brownstown Business Park and the arterial Northway (A3).

Details of the plans should be made public in the coming weeks.

The public will have the chance to have their say on what is being proposed. Suggestions and opinions will then be used to finalise an application seeking full approval.

This, in turn, will be lodged for consideration with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council at a later date.
