Popular Portadown man passes away almost three weeks after collision near Markethill

Aaron Moffett

A Co Armagh community is tonight (Friday) reeling following the sad – and untimely – passing of a much-loved young man almost three weeks after a road traffic collision.

Aaron Moffett, a much-loved Portadown man critically injured in a collision near Markethill on July 12, sadly passed away earlier today.

Confirming the news on Friday evening, Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley said: “It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Aaron Moffett this evening.

“Since the accident on July 12, countless prayers have been said on Aaron’s behalf. He was a man who made a profound impact on so many across so many walks of life.

“We are holding the entire Moffett and Robinson families and friends in our thoughts and prayers at this time. No words can adequately describe the deep sorry we all feel at this difficult time.”

Aaron, aged 38 and from the Knocknamuckley area, had been fighting for his life in hospital since the collision on the Coolmillish Road near Markethill, shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday, July 12.

A former captain and stalwart of Dollingstown FC, Aaron was deeply embedded in the local footballing community and admired far beyond it.

The club previously thanked the public “for the incredible amount of messages and phone calls of support,” adding “it is no surprise really as we know how much Moff is loved throughout the whole community.”

Portadown BBOB FC paid tribute: “It is with a heavy heart, that we have heard the sad news of Aaron Moffett passing away. It’s hard to find the right words to express the deep sorrow that will be felt throughout the club.

“Aaron touched so many lives and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

“Please keep Aaron’s wife Lindsey, his parents John & Florence and rest of his family and loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Aaron will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”

Funeral details are expected to be announced in due course.

Our thoughts are with Aarons family and friends at this time.
