A Portadown councillor is to brave the elements this Saturday with a sponsored sit-out in aid of two children’s charities.
On Saturday, December 11, Councillor Lavelle McIlwrath will be sitting outside in Portadown town centre for 12 hours from 8am to 8pm.
He is hoping to raise money for both the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and TinyLife.
Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice is a local charity providing specialist respite, symptom management and end of life palliative care to over 370 infants, children and young people living with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses both in the family home and at the Children’s Hospice in Newtownabbey.
It supports children and their families through a range of services including end of life care, care at home, supported short breaks and care for the whole family.
TinyLife is Northern Ireland’s premature and vulnerable baby charity. It is dedicated to reducing premature birth, illness, disability and death in the six babies born every day in Northern Ireland and committed to providing a range of support services that meet the growing needs of families of premature babies locally.
Last year, Cllr McIlwrath raised almost £2,500 for two mental health charities and is hopeful of raising a similar amount this year.
