A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a house fire in Portadown on Tuesday morning.
Detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team probing the murder of a 37-year-old woman in the Church Street area of Portadown arrested the 25-year-old man this evening.
He has been arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.
He has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime suite where he remains in custody for further questioning.
Firefighters spent over two hours tackling the blaze in the early hours of this morning.
A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, March 21 at 2.13am, firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a terraced house on Church Street, Portadown.
“Four fire Appliances attended the incident; one from Portadown, two from Lurgan and one from Armagh. Firefighters attended alongside colleagues from the PSNI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“Sadly, a 37-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. PSNI have now launched a murder investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Firefighters left the scene at 4.21am.”
It is understood a 12-year-old girl was also rescued from the blaze.
