Portadown Lemons squash competition to lift first ‘major’ trophy

A freshly-squeezed Portadown football team – with men’s mental health at its core – has squashed their competition to lift their first ever major trophy!

The Lemons Football Club was set up by a group of friends in 2022, with the hope of getting more young people in the area back to playing football and driving awareness of young men’s mental health.

In August 2023 they joined their first competitive league, The Lonsdale League.

Fast forward to 2025 and they’ve just won the Kieran O’Toole Memorial Cup and finished in the top three in the Division 2 Lonsdale League.

The Friday night (May 16) cup game was held in Richhill and The Lemons came away with the 1-0 win against a very strong Foin Sae Timor.

The goal came from Darragh Gibson after a lovely assist from Eamon Buggy Liggett.

This is the first Silverware for the club and a great achievement for a club that was only formed two years ago.
