Portadown man accused of making multiple indecent images of children to face Crown Court

He was released on his own bail of £100 to appear before Craigavon Crown Court in May

Craigavon-Courthouse

A Portadown man accused of making multiple indecent images of children will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.

The 21-year-old appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

Sam Cunningham, of Oakleigh Park, is charged with 26 counts of making indecent photographs of children and seven counts of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

As these charges were read, it was heard that the offences are alleged to have occurred between March 10, 2013, and June 18, 2018.

Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence barrister Barry McKenna made no contrary submissions.

Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer and Cunningham was released on his own bail of £100 to appear before Craigavon Crown Court on May 7 for arraignment.
