A Portadown man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Brian Phelan in south Armagh on Thursday.
Daniel Carroll, 27, from Edward Street in the town, appeared briefly before Newry Magistrates’ Court this morning (Saturday).
Mr Phelan, a 33 33-year-old father-of-two, from Bessbrook, died after a suspected stabbing incident on the Carrivekeeney Road area, near Newry.
Friends of the deceased shouted abuse at the defendant during today’s court case.
Carroll confirmed his names and that he understood the charges against him.
Judge Eamon King remanded Carroll back into custody after no application for bail was put forward by his solicitor.
The judge also warned those in attendance to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.
Carroll will be due back in court via videolink on August 8.
