A Portadown man has performed a 200 mile walk in loving memory of “the best friend anyone could wish for” to mark the one year anniversary of his death.
Philip Robinson completed his incredible challenge throughout the month of July to honour his friend of 40 years, Jim Archer who passed away on July 24, 2024.
The pair had an inseparable bond having worked together at Ulster Carpets, standing side-by-side in Portadown True Blues and enjoying a shared love for Hanover Football Club.
Alongside his walk, Philip chose to raise money for Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke in Jim’s name and has so far amassed donations totalling over £5, 700.
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart took the time to meet with Philip during the course of his trek and said of the experience: “It was a real privilege to meet with Philip Robinson this week and hear about the incredible journey he’s embarked upon in memory of his lifelong friend, Jim Archer.
“They were inseparable, and this tribute walk is a moving reflection of the strength and meaning of that friendship.
“Philip’s walk is not only a personal act of remembrance, but a deeply generous one raising funds for a vital cause that helps so many families across Northern Ireland.
“As he nears the final leg of his journey, he’ll be joined by Jim’s devoted wife Janet and their sons, Craig and Ross a fitting and emotional end to what has already been a remarkable tribute.
“I would encourage everyone to show their support for Philip’s efforts by donating and helping honour Jim’s memory in a way that will continue to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Philip has recorded “every mile” and encourages anyone who knew Jim to leave a tribute or photo “in memory of this great man”.
Donations can be made via the official tribute page here.
