A Portadown man who told police to “get to f***” after being spoken to about a suspected breach of bail has been ordered to pay a fine of £200.
The 36-year-old’s barrister told court: “No surprise here, he had too much to drink, it was the anniversary of a friend’s death.”
Kyle Martin Jones, of Parsons Gate, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry.
Prosecution outlined that on March 14, at 7.30pm, police on patrol of Westland Road in Portadown observed two males, one of whom they recognised as the defendant, arguing.
Officers could smell intoxicating liquor coming from both males and they enquired about Jones’ current bail conditions, one of which prohibited him from being under the influence of alcohol.
The defendant became verbally abusive towards police, telling them to “get to f***”, and this continued despite warnings and officers activated their body worn cameras.
Jones was aggressive and had to be held back by the other male. He then made to turn away but was arrested by police for the offence before the court.
Defence barrister Patrick Taggart commented: “No surprise here, he had too much to drink, it was the anniversary of a friend’s death.”
He added that Jones did eventually turn to leave the situation but had at that point already committed an offence.
The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within eight weeks.
