Portadown man jailed for domestic abuse offence against his mum

A Portadown man has been jailed for four months for domestic abuse against his mother.

Ian Donaldson, of Edward Street, pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse relating to between January and March this year.

The 27-year-old appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court via video link from prison.

A prosecutor said the defendant, who had a record, had made threats to his mother who said she was “worried sick”.

A defence lawyer said the defendant has autism “which affects the way he processes his emotions and his mother had quite often borne the brunt of that”.

The lawyer said the defendant’s mum said when he had a “meltdown” the defendant “would say very unpleasant things”.

The lawyer said the defendant had “complex needs” but his mother wanted to continue to try and help him.
