Portadown motorist claimed crash happened after dog ran out in front of her car

A motorist who crashed her car into the garden of a house at Greenisland Road on the shores of Lough Neagh near The Birches claimed it happened after a dog ran out in front of her.

Eliza Maria Lewandowska (30), of Cocrain Drive in Portadown, admitted charges of driving without due care and attention and failing to report a collision on Saturday October 26 last year.

A prosecutor told Craigavon Magistrates’ Court police received a report of a one vehicle collision and an Audi A6 was in the “front garden” at an address.

The vehicle suffered substantial damage with airbags deployed.

The court was told it appeared to have collided with a garden wall and pillar which were also damaged.

No occupants of the car were present. The householder said nobody had contacted him about what happened.

Police spoke to the defendant the next day.

She said she crashed her car after avoiding a dog which ran out in front of her.

A defence lawyer said the defendant is Polish and has been living in Northern Ireland for nine years.

He said the defendant accepts she was “probably going too quick”.

She said she had a “head injury” and had gone to hospital. The car was “completely written off “.

The defendant had no record and was given seven penalty points and was fined £200.
