A body has been found in Portadown earlier today (Sunday).
Police are investigating following the discovery in the Mourneview Street area of the town.
The circumstances of the death remain unknown at this stage.
However, police have arrested five people in connection with the incident.
Cllr Doug Beattie said: “It is desperately sad to hear the body of a man has been found in a stream at the end of Mourneview Street in Portadown.
“Our thoughts must be with his family at this difficult time. Three men and two women have been arrested from across Portadown and are now helping police with their enquirers.
“However it must be stressed that speculation as to the circumstances of the death are extremely unhelpful but anyone with information about the deceased and the circumstances leading up to his death should speak to the PSN as soon as possible.”
A PSNI spokesperson said: “As part of enquiries into the death of a man following the discovery of a body in Portadown, three men and two women have been arrested.”
Cllr Carla Lockhart expressed her shock at the news this evening.
She said: “The very sad news has just been confirmed that a body has been found in Mourneview Street, Portadown.
“I have spoken with the PSNI and been assured that there is an ongoing investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased’s family. Very very sad circumstances!”
Police are appealing to anyone who has information to come forward.
