Church Street Portadown

A mixed use commercial and offices development in Portadown town centre looks set for a new use – as apartments.

The properties – described as a mix of commercial and offices – are located at numbers 40 to 50 Church Street.

And proposals just drawn up also include 2A Carleton Street on the corner site.

An application has been drawn up and submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.

It details a change of use from the existing to provide a total of eight new apartments.

These would be made up of six two-bedroom units, as well as one one-bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom apartment.

According to a parking analysis accompanying the application, there is “sufficient capacity” available for vehicles in surrounding parks.

It also says the development will bring “no significant adverse effect to the adjacent neighbours”.

The parking study, referencing what is planned, advises: “40–50 Church Street and 2A Carleton Street, Portadown currently comprises a ground floor retail unit and first floor office accommodation. “The approximate total of the internal area is approximately 4100 sq ft.

“The building is currently in need of renovation.”

The earmarked properties to be converted were previously offered for sale by Hannath.

It was described as consisting of “five ground lloor retail units and first floor office accommodation”, with an asking price then of £150,000.

It was located on a “prominent position on the corner of Church Street and Carleton Street” and just 200 metres from the town centre, according to the agent.

The proposals for the change of use will now be advertised shortly.
