Second Portadown school closes due to Covid outbreak

A second Portadown school has closed due to an outbreak of the coronavirus.

Clounagh Junior High announced this morning that that they will be closed for the rest of today and Friday as a result of “a number of positive Covid-19 tests”.

It comes just a few days after the Portadown campus of Craigavon Senior High School closed following its own cluster.

MP for the area Carla Lockhart praised the school for their quick and decisive actions.

“The school leadership acted quickly upon hearing of positive cases in the school community and I want to thank them for their swift response,” said Ms Lockhart.

“Last week we had the closure of Craigavon Senior High in Portadown so this latest cluster of cases within local schools is a concern. I am liaising with the school and the Public Health Agency as to next steps.

“Reassurance of safety in our schools is of paramount importance. I know this is a view shared by my colleague the Education Minister.

“I will be speaking with the Minister too to see what more can be done to enhance safety within school communities.”
