Suspected heroin found close to community centre in Portadown

Drumcree Centre in Portadown

A sachet of suspected heroin was found close to a Portadown community centre.

The Drumcree Community Trust alerted residents that a suspected illicit substance was discovered close to Drumcree Centre, which is often a hive of children’s activity.

“On a daily basis, our staff and volunteers carry out checks around the grounds of the community centre and the road and pathways leading to the centre prior to opening,” they said.

“This morning, a small sachet was found which contained a brown powdery substance, probably heroin or PCP, which has been handed over to the relevant authorities. While we are awaiting confirmation of what that substance actually is, it most likely is an illegal drug.

“To those responsible for leaving, dropping or losing this sachet and its contents, we say, ‘ask yourself a question – what could have been the result if a child had found this, played with it, decided to taste it? Where would that child be now? In hospital? Or worse?’

“This latest find fully demonstrates the total disregard that those involved in drugs have for our local community and for children in particular.

“The consequences of what could potentially have happened if a child had come across this does not bear thinking about.”
