A Portadown-based GAA club has announced that planning permission has been passed for its new 4G pitch.
Tír na nÓg GFC had sought permission for a new 40m x 20m training pitch with floodlighting and additional car parking at its club ground at Ballyoran Park.
Announcing the development on social media, the club said: “We are delighted to announce that today [Thursday] planning permission has been passed for a new 4G floodlit pitch at our club.”
They added: “Thanks to our development officer Michael Lavery and councillor Paul Duffy for all their hard work in reaching this stage. Our fundraising now becomes vital and we would encourage everyone that can to buy a seat.”
Sinn Féin councillor Paul Duffy has said he is “delighted” with the announcement.
He commented: “I am delighted that planning permission has been passed for a new 4G floodlit pitch at Tír na nÓg. The club have been working on this project for a while, and we are delighted that it has progressed to this stage.
“This will be an excellent new facility to add to the club, and it is great news for players and supporters alike.”
Tír na nÓg – founded in 1943 – has played at several locations over the decades, including at Obins Street in the town, but it was not until the mid-1980s that it moved to its current ground, Fr Rafferty Park.
The club has 17 teams catering for boys and girls and men and women from age five to over 40, with the expansion of facilities at the club proving vital to help meet this demand.
In recent years, the club has carried out development work in multiple areas, such as developing new changing rooms, perimeter fencing and the installation of a 150-seater stand with wheelchair provision.
