Tributes have been paid following the passing of a popular Portadown GP.
Dr Ronnie Withers, who lived in Tandragee, was hugely respected in his field and his loss has brought great sorrow to the local community.
He will be fondly remembered in practice at Riverside in Portadown.
Dr Withers passed away peacefully at his home at Portadown Road in Tandragee on New Year’s Day.
Friends and patients have taken to social media to offer their condolences to his family and remember a man who made such a difference to so many.
One described him as “a brilliant doctor and a real gentleman”.
Another said Dr Withers, who was a past pupil of Portadown College, was a “great man”, of whom he had fond memories of going to as both child and adult.
“A true generational family doctor that we will not see the likes of again,” he added.
Dr Withers was the devoted devoted husband of Joan, treasured father of Jonathan, Benjamin, Daniel and Adam, father-in-law of Laura, Jane, Tanya and Rosalie also a much loved Papa Ron to Annie, Martha, Leo, Oliver, Anna, James, Thomas, Amelia, Elizabeth and Charlotte.
His funeral will take place this Thursday, at 2pm, at Thomas Street Methodist Church in Portadown, with a private committal to follow.
