
Tributes have been paid following the death of a respected Portadown centenarian who was a “founding member” of St. Columba’s Parish Church and a “great member” of the Loyal Orders.
Reggie Tedford – late of Rosemount Care Home – passed away in his 100th year on September 2, surrounded by his loving family.
Regarded by many as a “gentleman”, Reggie was known throughout Portadown for his friendly demeanour and warmth, never passing without stopping for a chat.
By his neighbours at Atkinson Avenue he will be remembered in great fondness and those at his local shop – GK Stores in Brownstown – have described him and his late wife Martha as a “valued customers” of whom they have many fond memories.
Portadown Royal Black District Chapter No 5, have also expressed their “extreme” sadness upon learning of his death.
Reggie had been their third longest serving member with a total of 73 years and two months of continued service.
In tribute to their dear friend and member, they said: “Portadown Royal Black District Chapter No 5 is extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Knight Reggie Tedford RBP 267.
“The thoughts and prayers of the District Officers and Sir Knight’s go out to his family circle and friends.
“1 Peter 5:7: encourages us to ‘Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you'”.
Another who knew him for his dedication to the Loyal Orders added: “So sorry to hear this sad news about Reggie. A real gentleman and a great servant of Portadown Orange District LOL 1. Condolences to the family circle at this sad time.”
Speaking to his likeable character, another said: “I’m deeply sorry and saddened to learn of Reggie’s passing a true gentleman always had time for a wee chat. I will always remember him with a smile on his face. May u rest in peace with your beloved Martha. Thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
A death notice described Reggie as the beloved husband of the late Martha, devoted father of Niall, father in law of Roberta, a much-loved Granda of Jenna and Jill and Great-Granda of Evie, Ethan, Penny and Ben.
His funeral service will take place on Friday (September 5) at 1pm in St. Columba’s Parish Church.
