A large late-night gathering in a built-up residential area of Portadown has sparked outrage among residents and drawn condemnation from DUP Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley.
The gathering on Cecil Street, which took place on Saturday night and carried on into the early hours of Sunday morning, reportedly involved loud music that caused widespread disruption for residents in the area.
Speaking after visiting the area and engaging with frustrated residents on Monday, Mr Buckley said the incident was “deeply concerning” and part of a growing trend of similar disturbances across the town.
“Let me be clear: this kind of disturbance is unacceptable. Residential areas are not venues for parties disturbing the entire street or estate,” he said. “No one is above showing basic respect for their neighbours.”
Mr Buckley confirmed that he had contacted both the PSNI and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council to ensure the matter is properly followed up.
“People who choose to live in this area – whether for a short stay or long term – must adhere to local standards and laws,” he added.
Others took to social media to highlight the issue, as well as the build up of rubbish in the area.
Mr Buckley is encouraging anyone affected by this incident or similar issues to report them through the appropriate channels or to contact his office directly for support.
A police spokesperson confirmed they received a report on Sunday evening.
A spokesperson said: “Police in Portadown received a report relating to a noise complaint in the Cecil Street area at around 8pm on Sunday, August 3.
“Officers attended and spoke with the persons present, providing advice and guidance in relation to noise. However, there were no issues and the caller was advised that this was a council-related matter.”
