Unlikely that ‘holey’ Brownstown road will receive repair

Arguably, one of the worst roads in the area is Glanroy Avenue where - in between speed bumps - there are additional speed calming measures in the form of cavernous potholes

A Portadown housing development comprising a network of connecting streets littered with potholes is unlikely to see repairs within the next financial year.

Within the built-up and largely residential Brownstown area of Portadown many of the narrow streets are in dire need of resurfacing… and they have been for years.

Arguably, one of the worst roads in the area is Glanroy Avenue where – in between speed bumps – there are additional speed calming measures in the form of cavernous potholes.

DUP MLA for Upper Bann, Jonathan Buckley recently enquired with the Infrastructure Minister to see if any plans were in place to upgrade the Glanroy Road surface.

Unfortunately, the Minister’s response did not provide any glimmer of hope.

Said Minister Kimmins: “My Department has been operating in a difficult financial environment for a number of years due to underfunding and austerity by the British Government.

“While there are many roads that would benefit from investment, due to limited budget resources, resurfacing work is taken forward through the prioritisation of those deemed most in need for intervention.

“Details of the resurfacing schemes planned for the 2025/26 financial year are included in my Department’s Annual Report to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

“Officials will continue to undertake regular inspections and repair defects in accordance with my Department’s Limited Service policy.”
