Update on case of man accused of murdering sister and attempting to kill 12-year-old niece

Alesia Nazarova Portadown fire

The case of a man accused of murdering his sister and attempting to kill his niece in a Portadown house fire is expected to go before the Crown Court next month.

Kornelijus Bracas is also charged with arson of the property he shared with his deceased sister – Alesia Nazarova – intent to endanger life and theft of her bank card on the same date.

Ms Nasarova died at her Church Street home on March 21, last year following a fire. Her 12-year-old daughter was also injured in the incident.

Bracas, who turned 26 this week, and with an address in Church Street, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry, for a brief update on the case.

The court heard that the case is set for preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court on April 10.

Bracas was remanded into custody until that PE hearing next month.
