A new ‘gateway’ enhancement costing up to £100,000 is to be created to welcome visitors to Portadown arriving by train.
Details of the project have been considered by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s economic development and regeneration committee.
And it is “currently developing options”.
The idea, according to an update report to council, is to “create an attractive and welcoming pedestrian gateway to Portadown town centre for people arriving from the railway station and Woodhouse Street”.
These options will be presented for consideration at a meeting held with the chair and vice-chair of the regeneration committee and councillors from the Portadown area.
After that, the various proposals will go out to public consultation to ensure everyone can have a say.
Councillors have been told that “funding of £100,000 is available for this scheme”.
Environmental improvement work have already been carried out at Woodhouse Street and are now complete.
The gateway will serve as a further enhancement and focal point for arriving visitors.
