Woman involved in argument in town centre car park was in breach of non-molestation order

Her defence said she could not recall having been served with the order

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A Portadown woman who breached a non-molestation order she could not recall being served has been handed a conditional discharge.

The 32-year-old’s solicitor told court: “There has been nothing since. A full order has since been granted which included an exclusion zone of the whole of Moira.”

Christine Lennon, of Dungannon Road, pleaded guilty to breaching a non-molestation order at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Prosecution outlined that on December 31, at 9pm, police received reports of a number of females having a verbal argument in a car park on Thomas Street, Portadown.

After speaking to the parties, it became apparent to officers that one of the women had a non-molestation order against another, the defendant.

The injured party stated that as she was walking to work at a nearby bar, she had been approached by Lennon who was asking her constant questions.

She then decided to walk back to her vehicle but the defendant stepped in front of her path to prevent her doing so.

When interviewed, Lennon made full admissions to the offence.

Defence solicitor Joseph McDonald stated: “The only reason this had been a contest was over the service of the order. She has a completely clear record.

“The interim order was served on December 12. She could not recall the order being served.”

He added: “There has been nothing since. A full order has since been granted which included an exclusion zone of the whole of Moira.”

Lennon was handed a conditional discharge for a period of 12 months.
