Plans are being drawn up for the refurbishment of the award-winning Market Place Theatre in Armagh.
The venue is now over 17 years old.
And, as such, some areas have been identified as being in need of work.
A plan to refurbish certain areas is currently being put together.
This will include essential improvements in the “customer facing” areas of the building, including improvements to the workshop/meeting rooms, as well as the box office and the bar and coffee shop areas.
The venue is one of the best-known and highly regarded theatres and arts venues in Northern Ireland.
With its wide mix of performances – as well as conferences, exhibitions and other key events – it attracted in the region of 80,000 visitors in the past financial year.
Councillors have been informed of plans for refurbishment.
A report to committee reveals: “The Market Place will continue to develop and deliver a diverse, high quality programme presenting the best in creative, visual and performing arts for local people and visitors to the area.
“It will undertake audience development initiatives to ensure increased opportunities for people to engage in and enjoy arts activity. It will further develop its role in the delivery of the area’s signature events.”
