Police in Portadown are reminding local residents to keep their home and property secure in the run up to Christmas.
Portadown Neighbourhood Policing Team have been visiting homes in the Killicomaine area following a number of recent burglaries, to share crime prevention advice.
Constable Beverley Wright, Portadown NPT, said: “With darker nights upon us and Christmas just round the corner, we want to remind people to be vigilant of burglary and take the necessary steps to make their home secure.
“Locking your windows and doors, even when you’re home is the first step. You may want to consider buying window locks as a burglar may be less likely to enter your home if a window needs to be smashed.
“A well lit home can give the impression of being occupied so, if you are going out, put lights and radios or tvs on timer switches. If you are going to be away from your home for some time, give us a quick call to make us aware of when your property will be vacant.
“Don’t forget the outside of your home and make sure all your outdoor valuables are stored away in a locked shed.
“Most importantly, I cannot stress how important it is to look out for your neighbours. The chances are that if a criminal targets one house in a particular street they may try another a few doors up. You know who lives on your street so if you see someone acting suspiciously note down any important details such as description or car registration and contact police immediately.
“We will be conducting our usual patrols and if you need us you can phone 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
