Ongoing incidents of theft from family graves at a Richhill cemetery are causing loved ones huge concern.
DUP MLA William Irwin has slammed the thieves responsible for stealing flowers and vases from graves at Orchard Cemetery.
Mr Irwin said that officials from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council – who own the site – have stated they are actively investigating the incidents.
“This is a very concerning issue and one can understand the distress that such an incident would cause for a grieving family member to return to the grave plot only to see flowers removed, and in this latest incident, a vase with sentimental value stolen,” said Mr Irwin.
He added: “This issue has been raised directly with the Council who own and operate the Orchard Cemetery site and I know they are focusing on this issue in a bid to provide information on who is behind these ongoing incidents.
“I have also raised the issue with local neighbourhood Police given the distress it is causing.
“I would appeal to whoever is engaged in this activity to cease immediately and stop adding to the grief of those who have lost a loved one and simply want to visit a grave plot without any further trauma being caused.
“To remove flowers or other items is distasteful and hurtful and it must stop. Hopefully the Council can deal quickly and effectively with this issue.”
