Richhill AFC, founded in June 2016, has received Housing executive funding of over £2,700.
The club’s coaches actively work in delivering holiday youth camps for local children throughout the year, as well as workshops based on good relations with a focus on ‘respect’ for opponents and especially those who come from different backgrounds.
All projects hosted by the group through this funding represent the group’s core values and sends out a clear message of inclusion, togetherness, and intolerance towards all forms of discrimination – both in sport and in society.
Housing Executive Area Manager, Pauline Beattie has said: “We are very pleased to support Richhill Amalgamated Football Club with this funding.
“Our hope with this project is that it will have a positive impact on children and young people by using football and more specifically the Richhill AFC to connect and engage with local children about issues such as sectarianism and racism.”
Coaching and workshop activities and coaching methodology promotes people from different backgrounds to meet on a common playing field. Mixing on an equal level irrespective of religious, racial, or economic backgrounds will address issues that can create tensions and dangerous community scenarios.
Neil Megaw from Richhill Amalgamated Football Club has added: “We are very grateful to have received this funding from the Housing Executive for providing this funding – which will allow us to continue our workshops and coaching activities; promoting people from different backgrounds to meet on a common playing field.”
