Resurfacing works on a Richhill road causing motorists concerns for a number of years have finally got underway.
The diggers rolled onto the Legacorry Road earlier this month.
Alderman Gareth Wilson said that after conversations with local DFI staff, the works would be substantial and improve the kerbing, drainage, sunken gullys and create new tarmac surfacing along the route.
The DUP representative stated: “I am really pleased to see this work finally commencing and it comes after a very persistent and lengthy lobby for improvements on this route.
“I thank DFI locally for their efforts on this issue and significant resources will be spent by the Department on these Legacorry Road improvements.”
He added: “There will be obviously some disruption associated with the works and traffic lights are already in place to aid the construction teams with a safe working environment and I would appeal to local people to be patient with the teams as they get through the works schedule.
“The finished works will be a major improvement to this route and will address the defects that been causing local road users so much concern in recent years.”
