SINN Fein Councillor Mary Doyle has said she has successfully lobbied Roads Service to carry out a number of improvements on roads in the Crossmore area.
Having been contacted by numerous local residents, Councillor Doyle brought Roads Service officials to a number of sites to assess their flood risk and have any necessary improvements carried out.
She said: “I was being contacted constantly by people who were concerned about the safety of local roads. We have had some very harsh winters over the past number of years and the roads have been left in a bad state. I wanted to show the officials from Roads Service the extent of the problem so I took them to a number of sites.
“We visited the Carrigatuke Road, the Armaghbreague Road, the Cashel Road and the Newtownhamilton Road close to Ferla Crossroads. All of these roads had issues with poor drainage leading to icy and treacherous conditions in winter time.
“Roads Service have taken my concerns on board and have placed a number of gullies on these roads to properly drain surface water. A blocked drainage pipe has also been replaced.
“I hope that these improvements lead to the roads being safer for motorists and that when winter comes we will not have the same issues with icy conditions that have prevailed in previous years.
“I wish to thank Roads Service for their help and assistance in completing this work. There are a number of other road issues in the area and I am awaiting updates on them too.”
